Community Engagement Officer

Full-time Position

We are looking for a creative Community Engagement Officer to support the development and delivery of community initiatives, ensure the smooth running of the Council’s Areas Committees and Neighbourhood Partnership Groups.

Ipswich Borough Council operates a range of services for residents, organisations and visitors to Ipswich, from cultural and community activities to education and environmental services and everyday facilities like car parking and refuse collections.

Our organisation is constantly growing and developing to meet the needs of Ipswich and its residents. To help us on this journey, we are looking to recruit a Community Engagement Officer to join the Corporate Support team based at Grafton House.

Day to day

We are looking for a creative Community Engagement Officer to support the development and delivery of community initiatives, ensure the smooth running of the Council’s Areas Committees and Neighbourhood Partnership Groups. This role will see you actively engaging with community groups and individuals to help them to seek funding through the Area Committees or other available funding streams. You will work closely with councillors and Officers across the Council to ensure the needs identified by community groups and community engagement professionals are addressed. The role requires close working with colleagues from partner agencies, the community and voluntary sector.

You will also support the development and implementation of the council’s Equality and Diversity Policy and any associated activities.

About you

You will have knowledge and experience of community engagement work, project management and an understanding of Diversity, inclusion and equality expectations. You will be highly organised, self- motivated with solid interpersonal skills and the ability to listen effectively and communicate influentially.

You will have the ability to plan, prioritise and organise your time to ensure deadlines and targets are met. Your flexible approach to work with a willingness to adapt as circumstances change is essential for this role. You will have the ability to form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders with the confidence to challenge decisions to ensure community needs are met.

You will be educated to HNC/HND level or have three years experience and organisational knowledge in a community engagment and development role.
