Health & Wellbeing Engagement Officer

Full-time Position

Ipswich Borough Council are expanding the support and delivery of community-based health and wellbeing opportunities and this exciting new role will be at the forefront in managing, growing and delivering on this agenda.

Job Description

Ipswich Borough Council are expanding the support and delivery of community-based health and wellbeing opportunities and this exciting new role will be at the forefront in managing, growing and delivering on this agenda.

Day to day

The role will develop and lead a range of health and wellbeing related programmes including our newly developed exercise and health referral programmes and work closely with local communities to improve quality of life, using physical activity and strong relationship building to deliver this.

This role will work with a range of diverse communities across Ipswich and will be there to listen and respond to local needs and use this feedback to inform the wider health and wellbeing action plan. This role is all about relationship building, active listening, quality delivery and crucially, strong partnership building and you will be expected to work across the sport and physical activity, health and voluntary sector as well as with a range of other key partners.

Your day will be exciting, fast-paced and diverse. You will be expected to meet with key partners and communities and build and maintain those relationships. You will be expected to develop and support programme design and be able to be on the front line delivering on these activities, be it a community event or a sport or physical activity session. You will be based in the Sport and Leisure service but will need to work across a range of Council services so need to be flexible and with a ‘can-do’ attitude. Some examples of your day-to-day tasks could be meeting with local community groups to find out what they want, delivering on an exercise or sports class in our sports centres or a community setting, working with health partners on ensuring our referral programmes are creating great outcomes, working in our sheltered housing schemes with our older residents and developing our disability and inclusive physical activity programme.

About you

The successful candidate will need to have delivery qualifications that allow them to deliver on activities (such as a coaching qualification, exercise qualification or public health related qualification or equivalent). For exceptional candidates we may consider those without qualifications but are prepared to gain these qualifications within a given time. We are also keen to hear from people that have worked within community development and programme design.

As well as a good salary, we offer a career average pension scheme, generous holiday and sick pay entitlements, subsidised parking, public transport discounts, free swimming, cycle purchase scheme, plenty of personal and professional development opportunities, flexible working, hybrid working opportunities, Employee Assistance Programme and the opportunity to work with great colleagues.

Hours of work is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays where demand and programmes demand.

This post is offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months.
