Ambition Ipswich

Planning Officer

This is an exciting and progressive time for Ipswich Borough Council. The Council's Planning & Development team is involved in several significant projects, that have the ability to positively impact on the development of Ipswich over the coming years. The town has a glorious mix of heritage assets and modern developments and the Council has ambitious plans to further progress the quality of life and built environment for its residents, visitors and workforce. Ipswich really is one of the country's best kept secrets..!

Our policy planners are about to consult with the local community on our new Draft Local Plan. This important stage in the plan making process will lead to the public examination of the Local Plan during 2020, this being essential to the delivery of corporate ambitions for growth in the borough, namely, 3,500 new homes at the Ipswich Garden Suburb development, a dedicated Council house building program and the continued regeneration of the exciting and beautiful Ipswich Waterfront. These are just some of the numerous complex and challenging developments considered by our development management and special projects planners.

Planning & Development comprises a team of fifteen professional Town Planners, working across the Planning Policy, Development Management, and Special Projects teams. Our planners work in a supportive environment, and in close liaison with colleagues from within Conservation/Urban Design and Building Control.

We have a well-deserved reputation for having a proactive and positive approach to town planning and have received national recognition for our work in terms of both quality and speed of delivery.

The Council is looking to recruit two permanent planning officers, to work in Planning Policy and Development Management, and a Senior Planning Officer within our Special Projects team (two-year fixed term post).

For any of these posts, you will need to be enthusiastic, motivated and qualified as a town planner (or working towards membership of the RTPI). If this is you, why don't you come and join our friendly planning team and help us to shape and plan the future of Ipswich. You will be given every opportunity to establish yourself and develop your career at Ipswich Borough Council, where innovation and aspiration is encouraged, and your full potential can be realised.

The Planning & Development team is based at the Council's Grafton House HQ, which is a just short walk from the railway station, Ipswich town Centre and the Waterfront.

Come and join us and fulfill your ambitions at Ipswich Borough Council.
