Job Description

A Trainee Events Assistant position has become available working in the Ipswich Borough Council Events Team. You will be part of a dynamic, responsive and professional team delivering a vast array of inclusive community events ranging from large Music Festivals to Family Fun Days.

The role is very challenging and hugely rewarding for the right candidate. You will assist in the planning and delivery of upwards of twenty annual events run by the Council. You will also administer, organise and ensure the compliance of a further, up to 80, commercial and charity events that use our parks and open spaces on an annual basis.

Day to day

You will be responsible for supporting the Events Officer and Manager in the day-to-day planning and management of the events; completing reports and event documents to support the Team. A working knowledge of Health & Safety matters and basic financial control is very important. You will help develop and grow partnership relationships with relevant stakeholders and community groups. You will professionally represent the Council at planning meetings through to the delivery of the events themselves.

Much of the Event Programme is delivered on weekends so flexible working is essential. You will be involved in the implementation of logistic activity related to the events and be involved in directly building infrastructure to make sure the events run smoothly and safely.

Based at The Corn Exchange and offering some flexible Home Working opportunities, the team operate at all parks and open spaces within the Borough. The majority of your work will be Monday to Friday with the exception of the event build, operating and strike days at weekends where you can expect to work long and anti-social hours in all weather conditions.

About you

The successful candidate will be educated to ‘GCSE’ Level in Maths & English or have Industry equivalent qualifications. Experience and basic knowledge of working in a similar events-based role is essential. It is desirable to have knowledge of Project Management principles, Health & Safety legislation and be IT literate. Good organisation and report writing skills will be beneficial. You will have a current working knowledge of the Events Industry and excellent intrapersonal skills.

The role is highly pressured with constant unmovable deadline setting and is physically challenging. You must be able to work to your own initiative and with minimum supervision. A great team player, you will drive forward shared objectives and be able to dynamically prioritise competing demands.

A full UK driving licence is required for this post.
