Lead a proud municipal bus company at the heart of Ipswich’s future.

Ipswich Buses Limited is looking for an experienced, commercially minded and values-led Managing Director to lead one of the UK’s remaining local authority-owned bus companies. Wholly owned by Ipswich Borough Council, the company plays a vital role in connecting residents, businesses and visitors, supporting local communities and contributing to the wider transport, economic and environmental ambitions of Ipswich and Suffolk.

This is a significant leadership opportunity for someone who can combine strong operational grip with strategic vision. You will be responsible for the safe, reliable and financially sustainable delivery of bus services, while leading improvements in customer experience, service performance, workforce engagement, commercial resilience and long-term fleet and depot modernisation.

Working with the Board, shareholder, local authority partners, regulators, employees and trade unions, you will provide visible leadership and build confidence in the future of the company. You will need sound judgement, political awareness, financial discipline and the ability to lead change in a complex, customer-facing and highly regulated environment.

We are looking for a leader with a strong track record in senior management, organisational improvement and partnership working. Direct bus industry experience would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates from other passenger transport operations, who can demonstrate the ability to lead people, improve performance and deliver public value.

If you are motivated by the opportunity to lead a community-focused business, strengthen essential local services and help shape the future of sustainable public transport in Ipswich, we would welcome your application.
