Housing Officer (Permanent)

Whilst this role is advertised generically as Housing Officer, the role is currently assigned within the Tenancy Services Income Team. The role will require you to work to minimise the debt owed to the Council. This will involve supporting tenants to pay their rent and Court Costs by maximising their income, undertaking home visits to understand tenant’s situations, assisting with tenants moving from Legacy Benefits to Universal Credit, signposting and removing barriers for non-payment and undertaking property visits. 

 

Tenancy Services are currently seeking to recruit 2 Housing Officers (Tenancy Services – Income Management) on a permanent basis.

This is an ideal opportunity you to further develop your skills in a high paced tenancy management environment. The role involves working with tenants and taking a multi-agency approach to help them to successfully sustain their tenancy.

In order to ensure you make the most of this experience we will provide you with on-going support within the team as well as on-going training.

Hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday.


Day to day

The Housing Officer team are based in Grafton House, but Ipswich Borough Council operates hybrid working and a large proportion of the work will be working flexibly between home and office. We operate a Duty Rota where Housing Officers are available to answer queries or visit tenants.

About you

Being educated to A level or equivalent and ideally holding or working towards a CIH Professional Qualification, you will also need a valid driving licence and be able to climb stairs, in order to visit customers in their homes. Previous experience in this role or a similar role would be advantageous.

You will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the Welfare Benefit system, possess excellent organisational and communication skills to be able to prioritise and plan your own workload using a variety of computer systems.

You will also need to stay professional whilst being calm and positive when faced with challenging situations and be able to build strong and effective relationships with a wide range of customers and partner agencies.

DBS clearance is required for access to essential computer systems.
