As part of the Council’s Swimming Development programme, you will be responsible for teaching children and adults of varying needs and abilities to swim.

You will be expected to set up and pack down teaching area, take registers, teach swimming lessons, make assessments of students, observe the safety of pupils. This role will be working across Crown pools and Fore street baths.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, able to work with the students to build trust and help them develop, have a strong customer service skills and be physically fit to undertake teaching demonstrations. The successful candidate must hold a valid ASA or STA level 2 Qualification in teaching Swimming. Also, desirable but not essential is a valid lifesaving qualification such as a NRASTC or NPLQ. Any CPDs in teaching swimming will also be taken into consideration.

As the largest swim programme in the area, we currently deliver lessons to over 1,100 students in our main programme as well as school lessons and private 121/221 lessons. We are always looking to increase our programme and what we can offer to the people of Ipswich and the surrounding areas with opportunities for teachers to assist our development team with this. There are Opportunities to develop as a swimming instructor with ASA and STA CPDs and to develop in the wider sports and leisure service area with our wider teams.

Various hours of work available.

The post holder will be required to work a shift pattern, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

DBS clearance is required for this role.

The selection process will be an interview followed by a practical assessment of teaching skills.

The assessment interview process will be carried out remotely via Skype for Business, Microsoft teams or in person.
